A project dedicated to all seasoned
Thomasians, the Senior Academy program was designed to not only give
entertainment but also provide valuable information regarding the seniors' health, welfare, benefits and rights. Already on its 2nd year, the seminar is a
part of the Office of Alumni Relations' project Keep Thomasian Beautiful: A
Wellness Series and was launched to give tips on how to age gracefully to our
seasoned alumni.
Held on the morning of September 28
at the Chairman George S.K. Ty Hall of the Thomasian Alumni Center, the event,
which was in partnership with the United Bayanihan Foundation, Inc. (UBF) saw a
total of 111 active participants from the different faculties and departments
of the university. The 4-hour program was started with an activity designed to
relax, relieve some stress and give benefits to the health of those who joined
the event-laughter yoga.

the event-laughter yoga.
Leading this laughing exercise was Bryson Bonsol, a motivational speaker and founder of the Be Blest Training and Formation Center who claimed that this was the first time he was giving a seminar in the University of Santo Tomas. He started his talk with giving a brief history of gelotology-the study of laughter-and explained how laughing, whether fake or not, was beneficial to one's health, stating possible effects on lowering the blood pressure & sugar, and strengthening the immune system. Bonsol then encouraged those who were present to do some fun and useful tasks-breathing, laughing, physical and mental-which all the participants gamely did and thoroughly enjoyed.
As the event came to an end, Asst. Prof. Fredeswindo R. Medina, director
of the Office of Alumni Relations, gave recognition to the three professionals
who imparted their knowledge and to the UBF the senior citizen advocacy of
Unilab represented by Mr. Carlos Gonzaga, a proud UST alumnus and UBF's
partnership management head.
