The Office of Alumni Relations (OAR) and Careers and Counseling Center (CCC) under the Office of the Vice-Rector and Academic Affairs (OVRF) relaunched its career networking and information session for graduating students and alumni on April 17 with the title, "Confluence: Empowering Thomasians to Meaningful and Purpose Careers".
The activity is a networking and learning session program where participants can interact and connect with top employers and partner industries to jumpstart their career or explore other industries and opportunities. Over 40 partner companies from different industries signed up for the panel sessions such as Procter & Gamble, SGV & Co., Reed Elsevier Philippines, Jollibee Foods Corporation, and Fast Retailing (Uniqlo).
The two-day event was kicked off with an opening ceremony via Zoom. Approximately 800 participants were welcomed by OAR Director Asst. Prof. Fredeswindo R. Medina, MACHs. A quick discussion was made about the changing global trends in the labor market and how the program can guide them in these changes. CCC Director Janice T. Ocray, MA, RGC talked through the overview of activities which includes industry panel sessions and company roadshows.
UST Alumni Association, Inc. (USTAAI) President Atty. Dwight Hilarion Ramos addressed in his keynote speech the challenges of traversing one's future once they graduate and venture into the world of work.
"I was seated just where you are sitting now & I'm sure I can say very young and full of hopes and dreams. But also full of questions as to what the future holds,"said Atty. Ramos. Also the ringleader of the alumni chapter group Tomasinong Ilocano - La Union, the seasoned lawyer gave career advice such as maintaining connections with people and drafting one's own doable roadmap. Atty. Ramos left a strong statement that one can predict the future by working hard in creating the future they want with the help of people around them.
The short program was then closed by OVRAA Vice Rector Prof. Cheryl A. Peralta, DRPH and wished the graduating students and alumni luck in their future endeavors.
For next academic year, the university intends to hold a career fair in a hybrid setup where panel sessions can be done online while the exhibit will be onsite.
