UST OAR representatives with the UP OAR Team.

The University of Santo Tomas Office of Alumni Relations (UST OAR) conducted a benchmarking session with the University of the Philippines Office of Alumni Relations (UP OAR) last February 20, 2026 at the Fonacier Hall, University of the Philippines Diliman, Quezon City.

A significant portion of the session was dedicated to an overview of the UP System, providing the UST OAR team with a broader understanding of the operational context required to manage a system composed of various constituent universities across the country. This exchanged proved particularly insightful as it highlighted the organizational nuances between two universities: UP, as a non-sectarian and government-funded national state university, and UST, as a private Catholic institution. This discussion aligns with UST's strategic roadmap as it transitions toward a multi-campus model, marked by its ongoing institutional expansion into Sta. Rosa, Laguna and General Santos City, South Cotabato.

During the session, UP OAR representatives shared the office's specialized role within the university ecosystem, specifically its mandate to strengthen ties between the institution and its global alumni network. It focused on how the office's functions are strategically organized to support complex operations ranging from data management to multi-channel communication efforts. Both offices engaged in an open exchange regarding their experiences in sustaining meaningful connections with their respective alumni communities and exploring modern approaches to engagement that resonate across different generations of graduates.

The benchmarking visit concluded with a shared commitment to excellence and a renewed perspective on alumni service. By exploring the best practices of a fellow university, UST OAR aims to integrate these insights to strengthen its program and bolster institutional initiatives. This collaborative effort marks a significant step forward ensuring that the bond between the University and its alumni remains vibrant and supportive as both institutions evolve to meet the challenges of the modern academic landscape.
