Around P14 million was raised in the second Rector’s Cup, the annual golf tournament held by the UST Office of Alumni Relations (OAR), last July 31 at the Sta. Elena Gold and Country Estate.
This amount was double the funds gathered during the first Rector’s Cup in 2016, wherein around P7 million was collected.
The funds will be used for further assistance and support to the Thomasian athletes for the 80th Season of the UAAP, in order to provide them with the extensive training and necessary expenses they need to further improve their performances in their respective sporting events.
With this endeavor, the OAR does not only aim to help our teams in defending the UAAP General Championship title but also in winning major games, such as the basketball and volleyball tournaments.
This year, alumni from the College of Architecture won the Rector’s Cup 2 Championship. The Faculty of Medicine and Surgery finished second, while the College of Science placed third. The event gathered almost 200 participants.
Last year, the first Rector’s Cup gathered 138 participants, with the team of College of Science winning the championship.
Apart from raising additional funds for the Thomasian athletes, the golf tournament is also a way for the alumni to come together in an unconventional gathering other than the usual yearly alumni homecoming events.
Raffle prizes, including photos of UST alumnus Paul Quiambao, paintings and sculptures of Thomasian alumni artists, and other UST premium items, were also given away during the event.
