The UST Women’s Volleyball Team was sent in Bangkok on January 9 for their training under the auspices of the Thailand Volleyball Association and FIVB Development Center, in preparation for the 2017 UAAP Volleyball Tournament scheduled to start in February.
A total of 14 student athletes, which will most likely be UST’s final lineup for the forthcoming UAAP Season 79 women’s volleyball tournament, are participating in the training held at FIVB Development Center, Huamark, Bangkapi from January 9 to 18.
With this training, UST’s bid to end a 4-year Final Four drought just got a huge boost following the team’s good showing in the off-season games. They recently made a semi-finals finish in the 13th Shakey’s V-League Reinforced Conference.
As part of the training, friendly matches with collegiate teams based in Bangkok will be conducted from January 12 to 16.
The team is assisted by their head coach Emilio Reyes, Jr., and two other coaches.
The UST Office of Alumni Relations, V-Pro Management and Datem Construction are the ones which sponsored the expenses for the said training.
The coaching staff is said to implement a strict “social media blackout” for the team members during the training for them to stay focused.
The training is endorsed by the Larong Volleyball sa Pilipinas, Inc.
The entire University has high hopes for the UST Women’s Volleyball Team, with the Thomasians in full support and ready to cheer for them in the coming UAAP games.
