Sixteen members of the UST Fencing Team will be sent to Brunei to compete in the Brunei Open Fencing Championship 2017 on January 9 to 14 at the Hassanal Bolkiah Indoor Stadium.

The following are the student athletes who will represent the University in the said competition: Precious Jaimee Nina Sapungan (Grade 11), Ricardo Fuenzalida Jr. (Grade 9), Kim Shaznee Tuy (Grade 9), Ralph Justin Mendones (Grade 10), Maricar Dizon (IPEA-BPE 4th year), Cherie Adrienne Manago (IPEA-BPE 3rd year), John Matthew Domantay (IICS 4th year), Bonn Christopher Pascual (IICS 4th year), Angelo Ramos (Graduate School 1st year), Zedric Estavillo (Grade 9), Sophia Nadine Bachmann (Grade 9), Henesy Odulio (Grade 11), Janna Dalmacio, Fhaym Sorrondo, Dennis Gascon, Fatima Domantay (Grade 11), and Maylene Pailma. They will be assisted by their head coach Ricardo V. Fuenzalida.

The UST Office of Alumni Relations will be sponsoring the student athletes’ accommodation and food during their stay in Brunei.

The UST Alumni Chapter in Brunei will also host a dinner for the student athletes and will provide a night tour at the Jerudong Park.

According to team captain of the UST Junior Girls’ Fencing Team Fatima Domantay, the Brunei Open Fencing Championship 2017 is a great opportunity for them to learn more and expand their experience in the sport.

“This event is my key to represent our University in a prestigious international competition and to expand the achievements that have been given by us, Thomasians,” she said.

The competition is organized by the Brunei Darussalam Fencing Federation.
