AKTIBOTO group, a voter education program of University of Santo Tomas Commission on Elections (UST COMELEC), gathered together UST administrators, and student and alumni leaders at Aristocrat Restaurant last November 12, 2015 to discuss about the Presidential Forum for 2016 elections to be held at UST.
Mr. Raymond John Naguit, project director of AKTIBOTO, and Nikki Canlas, Presidential Forum lead organizer, discussed the need for the Presidential candidates to consider aligning their strategies with the youth’s vision that was expressed in the Youth Visioning Forum organized by the same group last October 24, 2015. According to the plan, AKTIBOTO will conduct a mock election in UST. Based on the results, the top 5 Presidential candidates will be invited at the Presidential forum to discuss their platforms.
AKTIBOTO aims to equip voters with information that will help them decide to elect future leaders of the country. Various programs such as educator hero trainings, contests, talks and forums are initiated to increase the involvement of the people.
Attendees of the event included James Jimenez, Commission on Elections spokesperson and a graduate of BS Physical Therapy Class 1994, UST Alumni Association Inc., headed by Engr. Frederick Parayno, president, and John Simon, Chair for Advocacy, and over 30 student leaders from university-wide and college-based organizations.
