The Office of Alumni Relations, together with the student organizations and university’s administration joins in the signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) of Akitboto on August 7, 2015 at Tan Yan Kee Building. The MOU signed strengthens their ties of cooperative and mutual relationship to help in the voter education program.
AKTIBOTO is a voter education program of University of Santo Tomas Commission on Elections (UST COMELEC) that aims to equip voters with information that will help them decide to elect future leaders of the country. This project is headed by the program’s director Mr. Raymond John Naguit, an alumnus of BS Nursing (Batch 2012) and currently a medicine student of Faculty of Medicine and Surgery.
In his opening remarks, Atty. Antonio Chua, adviser of UST COMELEC, mentions that “We are going to do this (AKTIBOTO) not because of a problem, but because we have hope and faith in this country”.
Afterwards, Mr. Naguit explains the participation of different organizations in making this project possible. He elaborates that this project will not only teach the youth how to vote wisely but will also educate them to watch their votes, and check and evaluate the platforms our leaders have promised during the campaign periods. This program will not only help today’s generation but also the future generation as well. He also hopes that this program shall serve as “pambasag ng stereotype ng mga Tomasino bilang mga passive at walang imik sa mga isyu…” He adds, “Hindi ito publicity stunt para bumango ang pangalan ng UST.”
After Mr. Naguit’s introduction on the program, the heads of different departments and organizations stood up and gave their statements to help in the implementation of the program. Asst. Prof. Fides Maria Lourdes Carlos, director of the Office of Alumni Relations (OAR), mentions that they (AKTIBOTO) shall receive a full support from the Alumni. The OAR shall help in providing possible financial sources for the activities of the AKTIBOTO, shall assist in information dissemination of the program in different alumni associations, shall invite interested alumni to join its open positions as heads in the program and shall invite distinguished alumni to serve as key persons in AKTIBOTO talk.
